    Jaws: The Remake

After many wasted lie-ins and cancellations we finally made it out on a warm but slightly overcast August morning. The captain picked a spot 30 miles off the coast which he assured us was a sure bet for sharks. It took us 2hrs to get there, but Gerry, myself and Reena surprisingly slept the whole way. When the anchor was dropped we set about laying the bait and setting up the cage.

We must have been waiting about an hour before we saw any activity in the water. When the captain shouted shark, I was the first person to jump in the cage and plunge into a world I had never witnessed before.

At first there was only one Blue shark, but he was quickly joined by a slightly larger friend. The little one had an old hook attached to his mouth with the line still trailing along beside him. The slightly larger one had a wound on the right hand side of his mouth where it appeared he had been cut off the line and released back into the sea. While I was in the water, Gerry was in the boat teasing the shark with a fish on the end of a line.

When eventually it was time to get out, I took charge of the bait and managed to get the sharks head right out of the water. I did manage to get back in for a second time and it was then that the third shark came. He was the largest of the lot! The captain reckoned about 13 feet long, which is a fairly big fish. After about an hour submerged I called it a day. On the way back we were cold and hungry but still on a high from our expedition. Thanks to Reena and Gerry for the food on the way back. After that bastard carpenter Fred Hoffman conned me and my boss out if $150 I was pretty broke. Anyway, the whole trip had cost me $175 and was worth every cent. Id seriously recommend it to anyone interested.
